I woke up early to take a flight to the Northern tip of Borneo... Kota Kinabalu, Sabah - the Land below the wind at 9am.
I met 2 person on board the flight - Peter and Wilson. Peter used to ask close end questions to Wilson, and it made Wilson rather boring of answering Yes and No only. I noticed that Wilson kept Peter talking by asking him open ended questions.
30 minutes later, Peter asked Wilson.... Wilson, I found that the questions that you asked me had kept me talking; while you only answered Yes and No. Tell me how do you do that ?
Wilson replied that he was interested in Peter's views by asking him open ended questions. Asking open ended questions kept Peter talking and Wilson listened and learned from him.
Indeed in life, we need to show interest in people by listening to their views, opinions and perceptions. Listening is a skill that all of us need to learn.
